Arts & Business

Priority planning

Priority planning

One of the most resilient and well-used services we offer is our one-to-one service for arts and craft businesses such as individual artists, makers, creative partnerships and developing companies.

The service is concerned with the development of each business to its maximum potential, offering maximum support and encouragement and a valuable resource for information and research.

We provide either a one-off review and report with optional regular updates and feedback, we also offer a monthly phone and email review with optional regular visits, updates and one-to-one sessions.

The service is very reactive in response time and very proactive in approach, understanding and getting to grips with the situation. There’s no sitting  ‘on the fence’, positive input and advice is what to expect!

If you are an Artist, Maker or Creative or Arts Organisation we would love to talk to you and look forward to your call.

Showing off

Showing off

We are involved in all sorts of projects that help people make an exhibition of themselves, their products or their organisations.

Artists and makers use us to help with grant applications, exhibition planning, approaching galleries or organising their own shows.

For heritage organisations, charities and trading companies we research, design and produce complete exhibitions or trade stands.

We listen carefully to our clients’ ambitions and work closely with them to produce exhibitions which convey essential messages and information in innovative ways.

Together we bring graphic design skills, editing and writing expertise and marketing and production advice to offer clients a complete package or answer a specific need. We have a long and distinguished track record of researching, designing and mounting a wide spectrum of exhibitions.

Design matters

Design matters

Our team is led by partner Andy Christian who works alongside other professionals to further develop brands in ways that fuse with what already has been achieved with the development plans and strategies for the future.

Excellent design used well will bring business to you.

Our task is to reflect your core values and to express the nature of your business in an innovative but lasting way. We spend a lot of time understanding businesses and their ambitions before we offer design solutions.

Whether you are a smaller business in need of a logo and a strap line which captures the imagination or a big organisation with a spread of departments and more complex issues over signage or identity, we can help you to present yourselves to the world with clarity throughout the whole range of electronic, social and printed media.

Learning & earning

Learning & earning

We are engaged in education, particularly in developing survival skills for artists, makers and product designers. This work is undertaken primarily with universities and with organisations like the Crafts Council.

The way we work is student-centred and we engage students in activities and demonstrate points by using visual and dramatic effects.

We support key talent and undertake individual tutoring. We offer a prize of mentoring at The Contemporary Crafts Festival each year.

When one of us gives a talk or writes about a specialist subject, whether on tax advice, customer care, product development or perceived value, we travel to your venue and offer a live contribution with full involvement for students or business starters/developers. These sessions include follow up support for all participants.

Writing it up

Writing it up

We prepare promotional material for numerous clients and businesses and we also research and write copy for exhibitions, interpretation centres and exhibition catalogues.

We regularly offer our editing skills for short pieces or whole books. We use lively writers who contribute regularly to contemporary magazines, blogs, e-publications and privately printed work.

Our team enjoy coming up with brief, engaging lines which introduce businesses and projects succinctly. We are also used to condensing long texts into concise engaging and easily digestible stories. Our work has included researching, writing and designing wall panels describing centuries of history, writing and editing artist’s books and short introductions to other work.

If you are making a book, let us show you examples of those we have done for our clients to date. If you would like us to help you through the whole process we can take you from first draft, budgeting, design and print production until the book is in your hands.

Retail detail

Retail detail

Our team work to present great opportunities to Museums, Galleries and Arts and Heritage Centres to develop their retail offerings by increasing and refining independent income streams.

We achieve this without compromising the educational aims and the aesthetic ideals of organisations. This development strengthens and focuses the venue’s overall brand and brand awareness.

We have run major trade and retail organisations in the gift industry and arts organisations ourselves so we have first-hand knowledge.

We also work with associate experts in graphic design, marketing, legal experts and tax affairs so the range of practical advice and the services we offer are unique.

Developing retailing is also a way of engaging visitors and reinforcing their positive memories of your venue.

We also help individual makers and designers to develop, cost, price and target appropriate work for particular clients and retailers.
